A dramatic line of single-drum soil compactors from Hamm Compaction Division, Wirtgen America Inc., gives contractors a whole new way to compact earth and satisfy customers. Introduced in April 2001 at the world’s largest construction equipment show, Bauma in Munich, the 3000 Series is turning heads and winning awards for the manufacturer. At Bauma, the new 3000 Series line of soil compactors won the Prize for Innovation 2001 from a prominent German construction machinery magazine for its outstanding engineering achievement.

The 3000 Series has been designed from the ground up with input from dealers and customers as to what they would like to have, and what they need, from a soil compactor. Advanced engineering goes deep into these compactors, providing unsurpassed operator comfort and optimum productivity. For example, an entirely new operator’s platform was designed, enhancing operator comfort and productivity. The platform allows entry from either side of the machine, full visibility to either side of the drum via a swiveling and rotating seat, full 3-foot by 3-foot rear visibility with the new engine cover design, and dual, seat-mounted, 5-in-1 control levers to accommodate both right- and left-handed operators.

A three-point articulation joint – a bolted, modular design that stays put when directed by the steering – also is unique to the 3000 Series, allowing better traction in uneven terrain by keeping both the drum and the rear axle on the ground, even during a full turn. The use of a bottom knuckle pin and top "stabilizer" link allows complete oscillation at the center joint no matter what the turning angle or surface conditions.
